Bonita Paulis Fine Art Pastel and Oil Landscapes

Nothing gives me more joy than to hike and explore and paint this Wild Western Landscape

I have lived in the "Rare Air " of the Sierra Nevada Lake Tahoe Great Basin area for over 30 years

and will never run out of scenes that inspire me.The seasons, colors, sky and ever changing

weather at this elevation make every day unique.

I consider myself very lucky to be living at the crossroads of the Sierra Nevada and the

Desert Great Basin of Nevada. I strive to capture some of the beauty of this incredible

natural world and share it in my work.

I am a signature member of the Pastel Society of the West Coast (regional representative) signature member of the Sierra Pastel Society, and a member of the Tahoe Art League . I have paintings of many areas, from the High Sierra to the California Coast and the Desert Southwest, and my paintings are in homes here and in many international locations

What is Pastel?

"Pastel does not refer to pale colors, as the word is commonly used in cosmetic and fashion terminology. The name comes from the French word pastische, because the pure, powdered pigment is ground into a paste, with a small amount of gum binder, and then rolled into sticks. The infinite variety of colors in the pastel palette range from soft and subtle to bold and brilliant.

Many associate pastel with colored chalk, but chalk is a cheap, impermanent substance. Pastel is the most permanent of all media when applied to a permanent ground and properly framed. There is no oil to cause darkening or cracking, nor other substance or medium to cause fading or blistering. Pastels from the 16th century exist today, as fresh and alive as the day they were painted!"
